Natural Wedding Photos don’t have to feel impossible to get
I know how daunting it can be to be in front of a camera. ( that’s probably why I spend so much time on the other side of it ) But, as your wedding photographer it is my goal to make you feel as comfortable, natural, and genuine on your day as possible! In my previous post in this series You can read it here. I covered how important it is to me to SERVE my clients. The Jocelyn Cruz Experience is all about getting Natural Wedding Photos that authentically represent your day!
Yes, beautiful photos are so important, and I can assure you you’ll get them! But even more important is to feel served, loved, and celebrated on your special day! A huge way I serve my clients is by making them feel comfortable and relaxed behind the camera. How do I do that you ask?!
First Thing I do to get Natural Wedding Photos
I prepare strategically leading up to your day
Leading up to your day, we’ll have a planning session, several questionnaires, and multiple check ins to make sure everything is set timeline wise and details wise. I’ll create the photography timelines and schedule so you don’t have to worry about a thing. Being prepared in this way should already make you feel more at ease. (aka camera ready)
But to take it a step further; while we are discussing timelines and schedules, I will ask you about your camera history! I know this sounds a little silly. But, I will ask you questions like:
- Do you typically enjoy having your photo taken?
- Do you and your future spouse like taking pictures together?
- Are there any poses you really like doing or a particular face you feel comfortable making?
- Are there any poses you really don’t like doing or a particular face you feel uncomfortable making?
- We all have insecurities! Are there any things you would like me to avoid photographing or that you feel insecure to have photographed?
Many of these questions will get answered during our engagement photo session. Having an engagement session is a perfect time to get to know each other even more before your wedding day. We will also go through some of the poses that will be similar on your wedding day. From surface level to deep and personal questions, I’m here for you. I want you to feel completely comfortable, secure, and safe while you’re having your day captured. I want to serve you by gaining your trust. I want you to know that I am here to make you feel absolutely beautiful just as you are. By asking these questions it gives me a good reference of what is going to make you feel good on your day. Based on your responses, I can cater how I pose you and photograph you in order to get Natural Wedding Photos.
Second Thing I do to get Natural Wedding Photos
I pose you based on your personality and love story
I’ve been told often that I make people feel great while posing. There have been so many times where the couple has told me that being photographed by me was so much fun. I have always found myself gravitating towards any poses that are natural, organic and real. I love photos that have that “candid” look. And you don’t need to feel overwhelmed with how to prepare to pose naturally. Because typically, when you’re trying- it results in stiff photos! And we don’t want that!
I’ve had lots of experience as a wedding photographer. I am also a lifelong student and love learning from the best so I can better myself and finetune my skill. I know the right scenes to create for you and your future spouse that will result in beautiful and natural photos! And don’t worry- I won’t make you feel awkward doing it at all! Just let yourself relax and trust me as we shoot. It can feel just like we’re frolicking in your backyard or sitting in your living room!
Third Thing I do to get Natural Wedding Photos
I get to know you as a couple before hand
I think it’s so important to have photos that are classic and timeless. And I think the most classic photos are the most genuine photos.
I’ve already shared a little bit about my process and how I work with my clients. It involves timelines, questionnaires, and details. But in between all of this, my goal is to really get to know you and your story. Obviously, I love telling stories. And even more than that- I love learning new stories too. I will get to know your love story, how you spend time together, what your relationship is like, etc.
When I know these things it makes it that much easier to capture you on your day. If you guys are an incredibly affectionate couple then I know that romantic kissing shots will be perfect. But if you love to be goofy and light-hearted together, then more candid moments will capture you in the perfect light. I don’t think wedding photography is one size fits all kind of thing. My approach is to capture timeless and light photos that feel SPECIAL & PARTICULAR to YOU and YOUR love story! This is what truly matters to me. I believe we all have light to shine. And it’s different for each couple I work with. And their particular love story should be captured because it’s what makes you different that makes your love special!
